Marriage
"As the Church is subject to Christ, so let wives also be subject in everything to their husbands. Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the Church and gave himself up for her."
St. Paul, Ephesians 5:24-25
The Sacrament of Marriage is the mutual and total gift that a man and a woman make of themselves to one another in love. Between two Christians it becomes a visible expression of the unconditional love of God which is faithful even unto death itself. In Marriage, a man and a woman are bound together in the bond of God's love which can never be broken. By this union God makes them a single body for the purposes of revealing His love in the world and for the building up of the human family.
Preparation for Marriage
Congratulations! We share in your joy! This is a very special time in your lives. Just as the Church supports people preparing for Baptism, First Communion, or Confirmation, we also support couples preparing for Marriage. There is more to this than organising the ceremony and reception.
Engaged couples should contact Sacred Heart Parish Office at least 6 months before they would like to get married in order to undergo a marriage preparation course and get any documentation completed. You can email exeter-sacredheart@prcdtr.org.uk or call 01392 642389
Catholic Marriage Preparation Exeter would like to assist in the spiritual preparedness of this Sacrament. Our fully-trained facilitators provide engaged couples with the opportunity to explore relationship skills in a confidential and non-judgemental way. The topics covered include communication, conflict, commitment and spirituality. The one-day courses take place twice a year, in Spring and Autumn.
